Having a blurry vision or other abnormal vision issues can be quite alarming. It can only mean one thing: you need to see an optometrist.
You already knew the answer because you’re here. Only an optometrist can help you if you are experiencing something unusual feeling in your eyes such as flashes of light, halos around lights, double vision, and blurriness. It could be a sign of cataracts or other serious eye problems, which are common in older adults. Seeing an optometrist is the best way to get a diagnosis and start treatment if necessary.
We got here the best optometrists in Toronto to help you regain 20/20 vision. We’ll discuss the general services they provide, the costs, and overall customer satisfaction.
The Cost of Optometrist Services in Toronto
Optometrists are usually not covered under regular insurance and are instead covered by private insurance. The cost of eye exams can vary depending on the clinic, but there is a general range for the different types of exams. There are two exceptions where OHIP covers patients for one test per year – those being either 19 years old or younger, or 65 years old or older. Find the table of the Ranges below.
Optometrist Procedure | Average Cost |
---|---|
Basic Eye Exam | $50-$150 |
Comprehensive Eye Exam | $100-$300 |
The ranges above might be even higher if more specialized equipment or expertise is needed, therefore make sure to always mention that pricing is important to the doctors to ensure that they let you know what are the costs associated with a different test.

My 8 month old just had her first eye exam with Dr. Awadia. The receptionist staff were very friendly and welcoming! Dr. Awadia was very friendly and very good with my daughter. She explained everything to me and every test she was performing and made my daughters first time experience wonderful.
Dr. Awadia is very thorough and offers helpful explanations and descriptions as she proceeds through the exam. Can I wear makeup to an eye exam?
Wearing makeup to an eye exam is okay, as long as you don’t overdo it. We recommend going light on the eye makeup and steering clear of waterproof or lash-lengthening mascara. This is important if you wear contact lenses to your appointment or if you end up having a contact lens exam or fitting.
Should you drink coffee before an eye exam?
Caffeine can affect your blood pressure considerably if taken in a high amount. Though it will not hurt you, it is better to avoid coffee before your eye exam. It will allow you to get more correct results.
How long does an eye test take?
The duration of the eye test will vary from patient to patient, but usually a comprehensive eye test can range from 30 to 45 minutes, depending on the unique needs of the patient.
